Spring Hill Historic Home & Underground Railroad Site
Spring Hill Historic Home focuses on our history as a site on the Underground Railroad starting in the 1820s. Hear the story of George and Edy Duncan, two freedom seekers who came through Spring Hill in 1820 and left written proof of their enslavement and journey north to freedom. Or hear of DeCamp, a slave catcher who came onto the property in search for a woman with two children hiding with the family. Advocates for equality, the Rotch-Wales families lived here until the 1970s and were involved in local, state, national, and international history. The family witnessed everything from the American Revolution through the War in Vietnam. At Spring Hill, we focus on how ordinary people can be extraordinary and impact the world around them.
